A prominent but yet controversial issue in the space of intellectual property law is the
liability of Internet Service Providers for copyright infringements caused by third
parties who were permitted to do such on the internet. This paper examines the
definition and role of Internet Service Providers as intermediaries between private
individuals, organizations and the government and the internet, the legal framework
in Nigeria and also the legal approach in the US and lessons gotten from laws of the
country. This paper also identifies Nigeria’s path forward.
