The rule of law is the cornerstone for modern democracy, East African Heads of State are continuously reforming laws and establishing new institutions to implement the rule of law. However, their efforts seem not to yield the desired results because there is a sharp decline in the implementation of the rule of law in Eastern Africa. This is often attributed to factors such as government inefficiency, poverty and the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. This article uncovers some of the important solutions to the existing deficit in the rule of law, which include the establishment of a specific commission to oversee the implementation of the rule of law, and the establishment of independent anti-corruption agencies to curb corruption.
